The National Park "Vorpommersche Boddenlandschaft" by the Baltic Sea is one of the world's best places for crane watching. The birds are up to 1.25 m tall – and their dance attracts tens of thousands of watchers each autumn. During these days, the cranes meet in the nature reserve in order to eat their fill from the harvested fields, and prepare for their southward passage. About 70,000 of these elegant birds and their offspring come to the peninsula Fischland-Darß.
